Get to Know Andrew Quinley

How did I get into this career?

For 15 years, I developed leaders, working with non-profit groups and impoverished communities in Thailand. While large-scale community work was meaningful and impactful, I saw the difference that more intimate conversations working with individuals, couples, and children could have. There are significant pressures on families, particularly when they are in careers serving others or enduring major transitions. Since conversations about these pressures and their impacts are hard to have in the open, many of these families carry these burdens in dutiful silence. They endure, but as hard as the parents in these families work to keep the pressure off their kids, everyone feels the weight. I felt that burden and wanted to do something about it.

What is my favorite thing about counseling?

My favorite thing about counseling is the relief I see on the faces of my clients when they realize they are seen, heard, and accepted where they are, and that is a good enough place to start.

What do I like to do when I'm not at Atlanta Wellness Collective?

When I’m not with clients, you can find me a few places. I might be getting lost in the woods with my family (sometimes on purpose). I may be on a Jiu Jitsu mat looking like I've just been pressed into a waffle-iron. Or you might spot me at a table trying to teach some obscure board game to a group of my, very patient, friends.

What do I hope for my clients?

My hope is that my clients find themselves safe and comfortable with me so that they can find firm footing to test their strength and pivot into new rhythms of life with themselves and others.
